Un-muted

I may be quiet here, but I have a new post up on GITW today about my newfound ability to discuss death.

Also: Today, October 15, is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. I have a pin I will wear today, and will light a candle at 7 p.m. tonight in memory of Maddy, and all of yours. Much love.

I just read your post on GITW, having just found your blog, having just experienced a terrible loss in my own life. I appreciate the care you take in expressing yourself. I'm still choking on my grief, sputtering incoherently, trying to find a way to articulate what I'm feeling. That part of me that is struggling to give voice to my silent sorrow vibrates with a resonant "yes" when I read your words. Thank you.

I love that post, Tash. The stories in it, and all. I cannot find my brains to write a coherent comment over at GITW, but I just wanted to tell you that was an awesome post and you are an incredible person. xoxo

Death Barged In

In his Russian greatcoat,
slamming open the door
with an unpardonable bang,
and he has been here ever since.

He changes everything,
rearranges the furniture,
his hand hovers
by the phone;
he will answer now, he says;
he will be the answer.

Tonight he sits down to dinner
at the head of the table
as we eat, mute;
later, he climbs into bed
between us.

Even as I sit here,
he stands behind me
clamping two
colossal hands on my shoulders
and bends down
and whispers to my neck:
From now on,
you write about me.
